Kawabulak Gr
Type Locality and Naming
Eastern Middle Tianshan. The Kawabulak Gr was named by Gao Zhenjia, Wu Wenkui et al. in 1960. The type section is at the 1157 m highland of Kawabulak south of Shanshan County, Xinjiang Weiwuerzhu Zizhiqu (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region).

Lithology and Thickness
The Kawabulak Gr is slightly metamorphosed carbonate rock and siliceous carbonate rock with minor metamorphosed clastic rock. Lower part is dominated by brown-yellow, grey and grey-white dolomite, siliceous dolomitic marble, intercalated with grey-green chlorite-quartz schist. Middle part is siliceous marble interbedded with grey-white quartz schist and quartzite, metamorphosed conglomerate and quartz sandstone. Upper part consists of grey, dark-grey to black, marble and grey-green chlorite-quartz schist, intercalated with calcareous sandstone and conglomerate, quartz sandstone and quartzite. The total thickness is recorded as over 2000 m.

Lower contact
The base is in conformable contact with underlying Xingxingxia Gr
Upper contact
The top is unconformably overlain by the Cambrian System.
Regional extent
Eastern Middle Tianshan.
